Thanksgiving on the Beach ...

As usual I went with my parents out to Virginia beach with my parents for Thanksgiving. The trip was mostly busy and stressful due to the fact that the Virginia Beach Craftshow is the busiest one we do. However, Thanksgiving day itself was quite restful. Most of my day was spent reading sitting with the balcony door cracked so I could listen to the ocean (simply cracked because it was too cold to open it all the way). Mom, Dad, and I did get the obligatory feast for lunch though at Captain Georges (a fantastic buffet that has become a tradition).

The show itself was crazy but that is nothing new. Our sails were down about 5% but considering the current economic climate we all called the show a fantastic success. I love going to this particular craft show because of how busy it is and to shop myself. It is the most unique of all the craftshows we do.

We broke down the show on Sunday night and I was due to fly out Monday but I didn't have to be at the airport until late so I decided to get a little tourist action in before leaving. I had to decide between the beach, zoo, and aquarium. This year I chose the Aquarium (simply because I have found coastal ones to be rather nice). The Virginia beach aquarium is undergoing a lot of construction but, even so, I found it to be very well done and would suggest it to anyone with a free afternoon.

They had a lot of touch pools, hands on diagrams/sculptures, and interesting animal displays (including a shark nursery). I had a grand time exploring the entire aquarium and was even lucky enough to arrive in the aviary during feeding time.

I left with just enough time to drive through for a quick lunch and head out to the airport. I think I will try to do the same thing next year but go to the zoo instead. I don't get to be a tourist much lately so I need to plan for it whenever possible!

When I was a kid I said to my father one afternoon, "Daddy, will you take me to the zoo?" He answered, "If the zoo wants you let them come and get you."
