WOOHOOO!

This article was just posted on NOLA.com (I live in Lakeview):

Very little damage in Lakeview
by David Hammer, The Times-Picayune
Monday September 01, 2008, 6:08 PM

In the still-rebuilding neighborhood of Lakeview, downed trees and power lines appeared to be the extent of the damage in most sections as Hurricane Gustav's outer bands wrapped up their assault.

Power remained out throughout the neighborhood all day, and many private fences were toppled over.

A large oak tree blocked off half of Florida Boulevard between the Interstate-10 off-ramp and Canal Boulevard. A power line dangled across Navarre Avenue near Canal Boulevard. Tree debris littered Marconi Drive near Marconi Meadows.

Lights from the Interstate 10 overpass dangled over the City Park Avenue off-ramp near Lakewood South.

Debris was particularly thick in the leafy Lakeshore section, but few homes appeared to have significant roof damage.

The only thoroughfare rendered completely impassible is Canal Boulevard at the railroad underpass north of Navarre, which typically floods in any significant downpour.

I know that some things could still go wrong over night but the fact remains - my home is safe!! I can't even tell you how resigned I was that all my stuff was gone and that I might even not have a place to live.

I spent a great deal of the last couple of days bursting into tears whenever I started to think about it. I kept imagining how my living room would look under water.

I am going to have a better plan next time. I am going to emulate Remy (one of my employees) and work on writing up a hurricane plan so that I know what I need to buy and pack. I also plan on trying to leave earlier next time.

For now I am simply going to be able to sleep a lot better and any tears over the next day will be tears of joy!

Yeah, I am very grateful that many things seem to have been spared this time. Hugs. Let's hope it all holds up.
